History of art II
History of Art II focused primarily on art from the 10th century through the 16th century. Unlike a typical lecture style class, this one was much more centered on discussion. Everybody in the class was majoring in the arts in some way so naturally, their takes on art varied. Clearly an architect would see something different when studying a gothic church than a fine artist would. This led to many rich dialogues between peers. As a theater design and production major, when I look at a painting of a woman, my first thoughts are always, “What play could she be in?” and “how could I create that look for under a hundred dollars?” When a fashion major sees that same painting, they might be inclined to see a silhouette or a detail that could influence their next modern design. The varying lenses my class saw art through helped open my eyes to interpretations I would never think of.

One of our projects in this segment of the class was to do research and then teach the class about a particular artist. I was assigned Michelangelo. These are my notes from the lesson I taught.

Another class project we had was the encyclopedia. Every chapter had key vocabulary words- mostly artists, works of art, or terms pertaining to the time period. Everybody was assigned a list of words for each chapter and it was our responsibility to find the definition and any other important information about our words. We would then collect all our work into an "encyclopedia" we would use to help study. This is an example of what we would create for every chapter.
